Equal parts social commentary, family drama, and ghost story collide in this play about two Thai brothers who start a ghost-hunting business to capitalize on the “nationwide increase in sightings of ‘Asian-looking’ ghosts.” When they are called to investigate paranormal activity in the home of a couple recently displaced by Hurricane Katrina, the brothers make discoveries that challenge even their notions of sanity and the supernatural.
The design for this project involved close work with composer and musician Joe Kye, whose haunting violin personified the supernatural on an aural level. Working with Joe and the rest of the creative team, we established varying vocabularies for degrees of supernatural involvement in each scene, alternating from total realism to absolute surreality.
