A unique collaboration between two theater-making couples a generation apart – Ellen Maddow and Paul Zimet of Talking Band, and Abigail Browde and Michael Silverstone of 600 Highwaymen – this affecting new work is a tribute to theater – an art form that vanishes – and the people who are devoted to it.
This work was an exploration of the tensions, sacrifices, successes, and time slips that come with creating in an ephemeral form alongside the people you create a life with. I worked with Co-Designer and Composer Avi Amon to construct a sonic environment that combined the concepts of memory spaces with the material reality of the presence of the authors, the directors, and the performers in the space. While echoed drones and reverberant ambiences evoke a remembered past and unknown future, live piano, song, and vocal reinforcement that emphasizes its materiality remind you that we are here, in the same room, at the same time.
